No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

Vertikal + Vertikal II - Cult of Luna (2013)

Anzi.

Long ago, the friend Beach, I always hope that occasionally reads this blog, made me some band names he considered interesting. As I have said dozens of times, in a world of "liquid music" and extreme abundance of (music), it is convenient to have some tips of advice. Keep in mind that some of the bands favored by him are Neurosis and are (were) the Isis, just to figure out which way we are going.
The Cult of Luna are Swedish from Umea. More a collective than a band, they got to have a line-up of eight items; the present one has six officially, that upon the release of these two discs was of seven. I am not going to list them, if you care, you know how to do. They leave from doom metal, and evolve towards an interesting form of post-metal that brings them much towards the two bands mentioned above. The use of keyboards is important, the song form is not used, and how someone properly noticed, their pieces are more like crescendos. The atmospheres are often Gothic or even horror, and themes in their albums have ranged through the critique of political propaganda, government surveillance, Christian references to salvation and redemption, then moved toward philosophical issues such as human loneliness, the relationship with nature, until he lands, with this record of 2013 (which, given the prolific songwriting, first had to be double, then it simply gave birth to an EP entitled "Vertikal II" after a few months since the release of "Vertikal"), reflection on the theme of man's relationship with the metropolis, and of man with the machines, deeply inspired by the famous film "Metropolis" by Fritz Lang. The theme, emphasize by the same band members, is in contrast to the one of the previous album, "Somewhere Along the Highway", that was, according to them, "rural."
The album, which you can listen quietly together as the EP, is powerful, very atmospheric, with moments "reflexive" passing through furious and devastating rides, the singing is almost always aggressive and at the edge of growl, and the cutting edge is represented by "Vicarious Redemption", a track of almost 19 minutes must-listen, of which you can also find a remix (by Justin K. Broadrick - Godflesh, Jesu) in "Vertikal II". With this, you do not think that the rest of the tracks, long and often suffered, are worst. At the contrary.
